I find it incredibly interesting how the meanings of words change in the several ongoing political debates in this country.

For instance, in my post ‘Assimilation or Annihilation’, I point out there is no such thing as an ‘illegal immigrant’ since an immigrant, by definition, is someone here legally. The correct term is ‘illegal alien’.

The term ‘illegal immigrant’ is used to appeal to our sense of history and belonging. When prompted to fondly remember, “America is a nation of immigrants!” by those supporting Amnesty for illegals, we are being pushed to call up a warm, romantic notion of people enduring danger and deprivation to get to America and then make further sacrifices to work with us to build America. Immigrants really did endure many a hardship to get to the land of opportunity that is America. They really did contribute mightily to the growth and glory of our country.  We should rightly remember them and honor and extol their sacrifice.

Illegal aliens are a different group altogether. While all immigrants are aliens, not all aliens are immigrants.

Illegal aliens also endure many hardships to arrive here in the US. But their purpose in coming here is different from the immigrant’s. While an immigrant comes to receive from the bounty that is America, he also brings the resource that is himself TO America. He both contributes and receives. For the most part, illegal aliens are more interested in what America can provide for them as opposed to what they can bring to America.

Next time you hear the term illegal immigrant, pay attention. The person speaking may be telling you more about themselves than about the debate.

Thinking a better emotional comparison would be between our Founding Fathers and today’s Dead Beat Dads …

What’s a few hundred thousand more Felons committing the crimes Americans wont commit?

The close vote on a proposal by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, to bar felons—including those court-ordered to be deported—from legalization reflected the delicate position of the contentious immigration bill, which remains under threat from the right and the left.

Senators Kennedy McCain and Specter might have said:
“We believe American neighborhoods don’t have the proper diverse populations of immigrant felons. These felons have the right as illegal immigrants to live next to you. Remember we are a nation of immigrant drunk drivers and immigrant identity thieves…..
We have a New York Exclaimer Poll right here, that shows 82% of Americans support more felons in their neighborhoods. This amendment will allow in the additional felons Americans want and demand.

We know, everyday Americans will embrace these extra criminals as they move in next to you and your families and assimilate into your communities.
These additional hard working felons will be mowing your grass while your kids are home alone, making your hotel beds while you’re out, cleaning your pools while your daughter is getting a tan, and…You know…casing out the joints Americans won’t case out. We, in the Senate intend to welcome them into YOUR neighborhoods with open arms.”

ADDING: Of course they wont be living in our neighborhoods, but we will try to get criminals of our own…..like…um…maybe Paris Hilton….on the other hand, we already have a sizable population of Felons in Congress.

“The amendment simply expands the list of crimes making illegal aliens ineligible for legalization SA 1184, sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), opponents claim that its intent is to make the vast majority of illegal aliens ineligible for legalization. The amendment does not, by definition, apply to an individual who entered or re-entered the country illegally. It applies only to those individuals who have been arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced by a court of law to one year or more in jail. Moreover, it targets only those who have repeatedly been convicted of criminal offenses and are considered felons under current law.”

Your Senators instead voted for a Kennedy amendment (SA 1333) that ALLOWS AMNESTY TO…..illegal immigrant drunk drivers with less than 4 convictions, illegal immigrants that have already been deported, illegal immigrants convicted of identity theft and fraud, AND illegal immigrants convicted of other felonies so long as they weren’t convicted of Aggravated Felonies…..

One Way to Fight a Sanctuary City – FINAL UPDATE

Well it’s official. New Haven Connecticut is the mother of all sanctuary cities. With a vote of 25 to 1, the city approved ID cards for illegal aliens.

The Day.com had this to say about the debacle…

“New Haven, a city of about 125,000, already offers federal tax help to immigrants and prohibits police from asking about their immigration status.

“It was really a vote that reflected our values as a community here in New Haven, values of hard work, values of acceptance, and values that we get tough things done when we work together,” Mayor John DeStefano said Tuesday, a day after aldermen agreed to accept $250,000 from a private foundation to pay for cards that will serve as identification within city limits.”

From the same article, Steven Camarota had this to say about the pandering…

“Steven Camarota, research director at the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington think tank that favors vigorous immigration enforcement, called the cards largely symbolic. He said most illegal immigrants who want bank accounts or need city services have probably already found ways to get them.

“It seems like the main thing that’s going on here is really just a statement by the city that it wishes to subvert U.S. immigration law with a largely meaningless gesture for illegals,” he said.”

It’s clear New Haven values totally disregard the rule of law and the interests of American citizen residents.

Fittingly, two days after the criminal act was approved by New Haven, ICE stopped by and reminded the city it is still in America where laws, at least for the time being, still must be obeyed.

From the Danbury News-times…

“NEW HAVEN – Federal agents arrested 29 illegal immigrants in a raid today, two days after the city approved a program to make municipal identification cards available to them, federal officials said.

Paula Grenier, a spokeswoman for the Boston office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, confirmed that 29 immigrants who had already been ordered by judges to leave the country were arrested in a routine fugitive operation in New Haven.

She said that those arrested were in ICE custody and would be sent back to their home countries.”

In closing, ALIPAC has the right idea with regard to New Haven’s sanctuary city status. They are encouraging all illegal aliens to go to New Haven. They even have a flier for it.

Ted Kennedy’s protege, John McCain displays liberal issue deflection techniques at the debate

I was curious when I turned on CNN this evening about a few things. One was what channel CNN is on DishNetwork. Another was if the debate questions would be as mind-numbingly ridiculous as those posed in the first debate on MSNBC. I was curious if my favorite candidate, Duncan Hunter would get a chance to make an impact.

The biggest target of my curiosity, however, was John McCain. I had no idea how he would deal with questions regarding the travesty of an immigration bill he is so vocally supporting. Would he simply tell Wolf Blitzer “F*** you, I know more about this bill than anyone?” Would he be able to answer criticism with facts about the bill that would defend his position. Would he attempt to deflect attention from the substance by painting a portrait of conservatives that hate Hispanic people?

Senator McCain chose option number 3 after an earlier statement in which he indicated that something had to be done (and apparently that means new legislation fashioned by a bi-partisan group of liberals instead of the more simple action of enforcement.)

The senator from Arizona mentioned how hispanic people had enriched his state. No one could argue that point but he didn’t say illegal alien hispanic people had enriched his state and that is kind of key here.

He pointed to the hispanic people fighting for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan, some of whom have green cards but aren’t even citizens yet. Again, we all appreciate their service but they are not the people this issue deals with either. McCain has a liberal pattern developing at this point.

Senator McCain’s basic point is that if you oppose this bill you oppose hispanic people in our country. You do not appreciate them or their service.

This is not to say that Teddy’s prize pupil didn’t mention at least some portion of what is in the bill he is pushing. He pointed out that an illegal has to wait 8 to 13 years, which is more than those coming in through conventional channels. Of course in typical liberal fashion, he did not mention that this wait is for citizenship, not the permanent (or temporary-renewable for life) Z Visa that provides instant legal status and allows the recipient to stay and enjoy the benefits of our nation.

I guess McCain’s sales pitch for the plan, when analyzed, is that the illegals that come forward and get these visas will no longer be illegal and therefore we will have cut the number of illegals in our country by that number.

I wonder if Senator McCain had drinks with Teddy before the debate. Maybe everytime he said “my friends” he was talking about Senators Kennedy, Graham, and the others that are pushing this potentially devastating piece of legislative fecal matter.

How much do anchor babies cost the U.S.?

Anchor babies are pawns of the media and open borders crowd.  Also known as “birthright citizenship”, it creates one sob story after another and Accuracy in the Media is attacking it head-on.

The media use young children, even babies, as showpieces, arguing that if the government does not legalize, or grant amnesty to their parents, then these children will be left without mothers and fathers  [snip]

An example was a May 20, 2007, article in the Washington Post Style section using a color half-page photo that covered the entire upper fold of the front page with the picture of a young girl crying while being held in her mother’s arms.  [snip]

… the Post says her father was “suspected” of being in the U.S. illegally when there is absolutely no doubt he and his wife entered the country illegally and had this child.  [snip]

The Post exploits the little girl, Tomasa, and calls her photo “iconic” of the immigration debate, rather than use photos of illegal aliens climbing   over border fences,   or of illegal alien terrorists that were responsible for planning   terrorist attacks here on U.S. soil, or of illegal alien sex   predators, or of   the illegal aliens that   commit crimes here   in the U.S.  [snip]

Somewhere in hell, demons are shivering

Why? Because I actually agree with something Senator Harry Reid said today. Reid announced today that he would call for a cloture vote on the grand-compromise-of-our-national-sovereignty-amnesty-bill (AKA S.1348) on Wednesday or Thursday and he hopes to wrap up the vote on this bill by the end of the week.

He and Senator Mitch McConnell had quite a little rumble on the floor of the Senate this afternoon over the speed at which Reid wants to jam this bill through the Senate with McConnell charging that there needs to be enough time for important amendments to be considered.

But Senator Reid seems to have read my mind when it comes to this despicable excuse for a solution:

Reid, however, indicated that he does not want to set aside more time to finish the bill. The Democratic leader argued that Republicans merely were trying to stall a bill they did not like.

“This is a bill that will never, ever make a majority of the Republicans happy, it doesn’t matter what we do,” he said. “Now they’re saying they need to vote on more amendments.”

Reid threatened that, if his cloture motion fails, he would not proceed further on immigration at this time.

Yes, you read that right. Senator Harry Reid seems to get it. He knows, “This is a bill that will never, ever make a majority of the Republicans happy…” Talk about a ‘quote of the day’ moment.

And yet, we have Republican Senators falling all over themselves to go against the majority of their constituents, even against their own principles, by trying to amend a piece of legislation that is rotted to the bone and ripe for the vultures who wish to erase our borders. Rather than behave as the opposition party, they blindly fall into the trap being set for them by those that would bring our party, and our nation, to ruin. Rather than using their cojones to oppose the new majority, they willingly place them in the Democrats purse.

To all of our Republican Senators that are trying to ‘work things out’ and ‘compromise’ with the Democrats on this issue, your party is asking you – we are demanding that you – listen to the above opinion of Senator Harry Reid – and your constituents, I might add – and then;

Get your cojones out of their purse and vote NO on this piece of garbage.
