Eliminating Birthright Citizenship

**LAW**

My absolute favorite Congressman, Representative Nathan Deal (R-GA), has created H.R.1940, or the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007, which according to the Library of Congress says that it is:

To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

In otherwords, Deal is attempting to change the current birthright citizenship laws. Currently, babies born to illegal aliens on American soil automatically qualify as American citizens. IMO, and many others as well, this law was created in a time where the United States was sparsley populated and served an important purpose. However, in today’s terms, this law is dangerously out-of-date, and is in need of some serious tweaking.

As we already know, illegal aliens enter the United States at an unprecedented rate. Their children, automatically citizens if born on U.S. soil, instantly qualify for benefits such as Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare, and public education, just to name a few. If Representative Deal’s H.R. 1940 would pass, it would require that the parent either be a legal citizen, have legal permanent resident status, or be actively serving in the United States Military.

If we could get this resolution passed – think of how much money the taxpayers will save in benefits alone. Think of how our overwhelmed public school system will be relieved by reducing the rate of enrollment.

This pending resolution currently has 57 co-sponsors. Take a look at the list and see if your Representative is included. If not, please consider sending a letter of encouragement to support this important piece of legislation.

New state law on illegal immigrants looks strict, but is it a real crackdown?

Issue catches fire with citizens unaccustomed to activist role

**CRIME**

Crime Unit needs one more gang member

The Organized Crime Unit is still looking for 20-year-old Jeremiah White, the only one of the 15 indicted gang suspects still at large. If you have any information, call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.

Former murder suspect pleads guilty to related charges

…23-year-old Juan James pled guilty to motor vehicle theft, forgery, cocaine possession and escape and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 on probation: “It is expected that after he serves his incarceration in the Georgia prison system, he would be deported, and the probation portion of the sentence would be suspended,” said Darragh.

It kinda sounds like it (is gang-related), but we’re not 100 percent sure at this point, Gunter said.

**SPEAK OUT**

Enough of ‘business as usual’ in D.C.

We, not just in Georgia but all over the United States, want the federal government to enforce the current laws on an equal basis for all legal citizens and uphold our Constitution until such time as we can elect an entirely new Congress, who will hopefully listen to the taxpayers and voters of this country…Rick Frommer – Murrayville, GA
