Illegal immigration…gang violence…both are fuel to a fire that gets hotter by the day. You can feel it in this state…and our school officials are getting nervous.

Delphia Young made [an] apology Thursday night and admitted that she used profanity Nov. 2 after calling ninth and 10th-grade Hispanic students to the cafeteria for a meeting. She said she was angry and also told them she might call in immigration officials.

Young _ in her second year as principal of the high school _ said her intentions were not to threaten the students but to let them know that violence was a problem at the school.

Folks – this is a principal at her wits-end. Do I agree with the manner in which she confronted the students? Not necessarily. However, sometimes you have to get down on a kid’s level to get them to listen.

This school is experiencing a Hispanic Gang problem and it is absolutely correct to be proactive, rather than reactive in this situation.

Let’s be honest – we all know what it’s going to take for people to wake up and take this seriously.

Something tragic.

I certainly don’t want it to, but if Georgia doesn’t get a handle on illegal immigration and Hispanic gang crime – it’s going to happen.

Violent crime in southwest Gwinnett is six times higher than it is throughout the rest of the county, consultants told area leaders Thursday.

That’s why the district should hire its own police force to combat problems of code enforcement, prostitution and gangs
Suggestions to combat crime in Gwinnett include:

-Injunctions to bar known gang members from areas where they normally meet.
-Working to deport criminals who are in the country illegally

Lilburn and Gwinnett is home to a third of the county’s drug distribution and nearly half of Gwinnett’s prostitution and sex crimes. The picture is sobering for an area that takes up less than 4 percent of the county and has 12 percent of its population.

Are you getting this readers? Georgia is starting to sound a lot like South Central L.A.
