Enemy at the gates……..The Republican Leadership is killing it’s own party.

From The Blogger news

“With the resignation of Republican National Committee Chair Ken Mehlman, President Bush intends to fill the post with Florida’s Mel Martinez, a Hispanic who led the battle in the U.S. Senate for amnesty for illegal aliens.”

The nomination of Mel Martinez as RNC chair is not yet a done deal — the RNC membership must vote on it and will vote in approx. six weeks. The President, however, has made his choices known, not only for the RNC leadership but for his intended direction of the Republican party — business as usual.

Bush is working hard to stack the deck with Pro-illegal immigration appointees. They seem intent to go against the will of the American people and commit political suicide, and I would be happy to hand them the razor except Pelosi would be handing it to me.

This nation has a huge problem, it is overrun with illegal aliens, and George Bush still refuses to confront and resolve that problem with sensible measures that will return the U.S. to U.S. citizens. Instead, the President is focused on a course of action that will create a new underclass of citizen, the majority of whom are destined to be locked into poverty and social welfare for decades to come.

From a pragmatic perspective:

Republican strategists said the decision to back Martinez is an acknowledgment that the party lost ground in last week’s midterm elections, with the GOP share of the Latino vote dropping to 30 percent from more than 40 percent in 2004.

Curly Haugland, a Republican National Committee member from North Dakota, who said the party is far too focused on courting minorities. “We’re losing our base in droves, because they don’t get campaigned to,” he said, referring to GOP-leaning conservatives.

Randy Pullen, a Republican National Committee member from Arizona and an activist against illegal immigration, likened the Martinez selection to the episode in which Bush named his longtime friend and legal counsel to the Supreme Court — only to reverse himself after a furious conservative backlash.

Republicans, besides being wrong, seem to be doing their damndest to build a huge Democrat voting block. Do they really think millions of new hispanic housekeepers and resturant workers are going to be suddenly grateful with their $8.50/hr jobs and vote Republican? Not only that, millions of middle class Americans will bail on supporting them. What idiots are running this show?

We need to hammer the Republican party back to their senses, and quick.

Emerging from his White House meeting with Bush, Martinez said Republicans struck the wrong tone on immigration during the campaign. “Border security only, enforcement only, harshness only, is not the message that I believe America wants to convey,” Martinez said.

Americans just conveyed a message to Republicans. “STAY TRUE TO YOUR PRINCIPLES OR WE’LL KICK YOU OUT.”

Through their lack of respect for our principles, our citizens and our laws, Republicans are forcing Americans to embrace this exact message. Could they be any more out of touch?……
