I need to learn Spanish…(so I can find a job in Georgia)

So I saw a post from someone who was very frustrated, because they were having a hard time finding employment.

This got me thinking…we hear all the time how illegal immigrants are doing only the jobs that ‘Americans won’t do,’ so I decided to take a look at our local classifieds:

American’s apparently don’t want to be poultry workers. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:-Bilingual speaking skills…

Pharmacy Technicians: Bilingual candidates also pref’d…

Experienced Pharmacy Tech position available.Bilingualism is a plus

Front Office Receptionists at a Medical Office: BILINGUAL SKILLS HELPFUL

Pre-K Teachers:
…enjoy a multicultural environment…basic english proficiency…

I found all of this in a matter of minutes…I wonder how many Georgian’s can’t find jobs because they aren’t bilingual?

A small review of one day’s local classifieds shows me that many of the jobs here i’m not even qualified for, because I.Don’t.Speak.Spanish.

I wonder if Pew factored that into their little study?

The Pew Hispanic Center found that Latino unemployment is at an all-time LOW of 5.2%

In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, October 2006 numbers show an even lower rate at 4.7%!

Well – if illegal immigrants aren’t taking jobs away from U.S. citizens, then how do they explain the unemployment rate for, say…African Americans? Their unemployment rate is almost double at a whopping 8.6%!!

Looks like the illegal’s have no problem finding work. This article is a good example of that.

It’s time to target U.S. employers. Luckily, Georgia has new employment compliance laws that are due to hit in 2007.

Should be interesting to see if it works.

GOP bills target illegal immigrants, sex offenders

State Sen. John Douglas, R-Covington, put forward legislation making property owned by a person in the country illegally ineligible for tax exemptions.

This sounds good – but look at what happened to Escondido, California today…
