**YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK…(for illegal immigrants)**

Here’s some illegal immigration statistics for the State of Georgia. Enjoy.

228,000 illegal aliens resided in Georgia as of 2000, according to INS figures. The number of illegal aliens has increased 613 percent since 1996 and 777 percent since 1992, giving Georgia the seventh largest illegal immigrant population in the country.

Georgia authorities requested $10.4 million in compensation from the federal government in FY’99 for the incarceration of illegal aliens in state and local jails and prisons, but it received only $4 million in compensation, leaving $6.4 in uncompensated costs to be borne by Georgia taxpayers.

Small towns struggle to hire bilingual officers

On his first burglary call, police officer Freddy Amaya and his partner responded to an alarm at a pawn shop at 3 a.m. Searching the scrubby lot, Amaya stepped onto the suspect, who was hiding in tall weeds.

The Hispanic man seemed panicked at the officers’ commands, spoken in English, and was about to run in front of their drawn guns. But he dropped to the ground and surrendered once Amaya, in Spanish, told him not to run.

Sheriff’s investigator Gwen Hightower previously said that an ongoing argument between the Chorbas about Vasile wishing to return to his native country while his wife wanted to remain in the United States might have prompted the incident.

**IMMIGRATION LAW**

Immigration: Too much, too little or just right?

A visitor can be here legally but not have a Social Security number, Levay said. Under the latest rules from the state, he or she won’t be able to get driver’s license.

Some of the rules don’t make sense, he said – making an immigrant return to his home country to make the application for documents, for instance.

“It costs a lot of money and it doesn’t make sense. It’s a huge bureaucratic morass that takes forever to get an application through.”

Sometime in the near future, I would like to take a look at immigration law. What does an immigrant have to do to become an American? Is it difficult? Is it expensive? What is keeping millions of people from entering the U.S. legally?

These are all questions that need to be answered before we ever gain a true victory against illegal immigration.

The Voice says there will be a mass exodus of illegal immigrants leaving Georgia once SB 529 kicks in…

TBG doesn’t think so. Illegal immigrants didn’t care about our laws before, so why would they care once these new laws are implemented? I guess we’ll wait and see!
