English vs. Spanish: A Question of Racism?

In a rare show of wisdom several years ago, California voters passed Proposition 227 to abolish most forms of bilingual education. The premise was quite simple: When English is not spoken in the home, youngsters are at a decided disadvantage, and must, therefore, receive intensive English instruction elsewhere.

Pampering non-English speaking youngsters with bilingual instruction was correctly seen as counterproductive, and not in the best interests of the young learners.

Unfortunately, some Hispanics educators still refuse to abide by the law and continue to teach in Spanish.

One such so-called educator was recently recognized as “Teacher of the Year” by a San Diego school district. Pancho, which is not his real name, proclaimed it his duty to instruct Hispanics in their native tongue, and hailed this defiance of state law as a major accomplishment.

Were it not for the fact that California’s educational system is administered almost exclusively by outlaw liberals, Pancho would have been fired and his teaching credentials permanently revoked. By refusing to expose his students to the language needed to succeed in America, Pancho should also be arrested and charged with child endangerment/abuse.

As an educator, Pancho should know that California now requires students to pass a test in order to graduate from high School. One of the test subjects is English proficiency.

Do you get that, Pancho? English, not Spanish, is a requirement for high school graduation in California.

California does not test for Spanish proficiency because English is the predominate language in California and throughout America. Internationally, mastery of English, not Spanish, is vital.

Pancho probably labels those who want English to be the official American language as “racists.” However, I doubt that Pancho sees himself as a racist for preferring Spanish to English.

In fact, Pancho probably believes that his defiance of state law is perfectly justified because bilingual education means diversity.

To liberals, “Diversity is our greatest strength” is recognized and accepted as the new pledge of allegiance to socialism.

California parents please remember this: English proficiency is required to graduate high school. Spanish proficiency is required to pick fruit and
operate leaf blowers.

Which future do you want for your child?

Comprehende?

We’ve already went through this in American history. I am a high school student who is 100% German ancestry living in the midwest. Yet in 2013 I do not know how to have a conversation in German. My parents know sentences and my Grandparents were fluent. I know a few words. Give it enough time and the Hispanic children will not want to use their native language as many other generations, as well as myself, have chosen.

Honestly I think it would have been cool if my parents would have learned more and taught me too. So I hope that the Hispanic children will hold onto their language a little more but I think that sadly just like my family they will not see its importance and forget

Spanish was supose to be in USA as an igual language with Englixh, if the anglo Rangers didn´t invade Texas, Colorado, Arizona, California,Montana, Wyoming, Nuevo Mexico, Nevada etc etc etc…
So the natural place of the Spanish in USA is not as an illegal allien language but as a friendly and original language from teh USA…Most( if historical data are taking …)legal than English but never lower…
Why the two comunitys anglo and Hspanic take a break and crate a MEGA lingustiic country wich will be able to contact and comunicate with mostly of the occidental world with its two importants national languages:English and Spanish!!!!!!!!…………

Because of people like this, America is in decline. Europeans speak four or five languages, meanwhile Americans are losing time in meaningless debates about language. I will love to learn many more languages because every new language opens a whole new world of understanding, culture, and perspective.

The author of this is a little bit stupid. I am American and I have Spanish family. I speak Spanish with my family and friends and I love it.

Hi!
Your main point is correct: since English is the predominant language, classes at school should be given on English. In my personal opinion, i belive that the English proeficiency test is soo stupyd, they ask you to write an essay the format the want, and the spend almost allt he high school period preparing you to write a “Persuasive essay” Is not complicated at all, because they give you all the answers. I have living/studyng in the United States of America only by two years, and passed that test with no problem mean while some Americans or Anglo-Americans or
Native of the United States (choose the title you like the most) have speaking English all their lives and still cannot pass that test. is unbelievable! almost ridiculous!
Your theory about English been superior than Spanish is completly wrong! non is better that the other one and English is not the only languaje spoken all around the world; plus, all of the southern countries of the American Continent are hispanic because of the Spanish colonization. In some of them portuguese is spoken has their language and some other made variations of spanish.
I do not like the idea of Pancho giving classes on Spanish, because of the standards the school requires. He was only trying to do what he taught was helpful for his students. I Also do not like your idea of blind people trough internet saying what you think are Panchos ideas about “Racism” because Language is not a genetic trait, plus there is only one Race wich is “homo sapiens sapiens.”
And bilingual education help to conect etnic groups, is not just to look pretty and say “Hey im bilingual and im better than you just because of that.”
Parents remeber to open your minds and see what kind of education your children are receiving. I personally encourage you to make your child bilingual, and I am not talking about Spanish only, your child can learn German or French, Japanese or any other language you prefer.
By the way I dont mind if my child ends picking up fruits and operating leaf blowers as long as he likes it, and is happy with it, someone has to do that job.
Please do not lie like that on the internet, just shows your fulishness and ignorance. e-mail me if you have any comment. (azul_gusana@live.com.mx)

For those ignorants, Mexican is not a race, it is a nationality.
Mexicans are “mestizos” which is the mix of Native American (from the Americas) and Spanish which is Caucasian… So even for those Hispanics that didn’t know we’re White too… The difference between the American whites and Mexican Whites is that mos of the Mexicans look more Native that White that’s why we look different, and most of us are dark skinned. By the way I’ve seen a lot of Mexican Indians (Native Americans) in the U.S. and they totally behave like the rest of the “mestizos”, it’s very interesting.
