WE ARE BUILDING THE FENCE!!!

via WAPO

Bush was back in Yuma, Ariz., to inspect the construction of border fencing and to push for the creation of a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. The trip serves as a bookend to the visit Bush made to the same southwest desert city last May.

“I have come to the border today with rolled up sleeves to tell the American people about the incredible progress we have made making our border more secure by making it less difficult to cross.
No longer will drug dealers, guest workers, and their spouses, their kids, brothers, sisters, cousins, parents and grandparents be able to simply climb a 15 foot storm fence topped with razor wire, now instead of a fence, they will have to deal with the horrors of barrier poles and lights.”

“It’s amazing the progress that’s been made,” Bush told border officials. “I was most impressed by your strategy, but more impressed by the fact that it’s now being implemented.” So far this budget year, apprehensions of people crossing illegally in the Yuma Sector is down 68 percent, according to the White House. Bush credits that to the power of deterrence.SOURCE

IN HIS SPEECH BUSH SORTA BASICALLY SAID:
“Instead of the 900 miles of fence we promised in the secure border act I signed just before the election……we will only build 300 miles of fence…..the rest will be protected by little poles stuck in the ground. The evidence is showing apprehensions have significantly decreased at the locations where these poles have been installed instead of a fence. We can only assume drug runners and illegal immigrants are seeing them and fleeing in fear back into Mexico figuring it’s just not worth the risk to attempt to get by them…………….

ADDITIONALLY:
“We have made an effort (through our fine Justice Dept.) to reassure our brave law enforcement agents, that they will be charged, prosecuted, sued and jailed if they attempt to apprehend any future guest workers.
These two programs have resulted in an incredible decrease in arrests proving the borders are more secure.

We have determined (with the help of Homeland security and the U.S.Chamber of Commerce) the less fence we build, the more secure our borders will be.” It’s a simple 4 step process:

1) We don’t build fences to block anybody crossing our borders…………
2) We jail any border patrol agents that attempt to enforce the law by apprehending anybody crossing the border……..
3) Apprehensions decrease………
4) The borders are more secure……..

“There are some who say my coming here is just a symbolic attempt prove the borders are secure when they aren’t and to get any legislation passed that will make my friends in big business happy at the expense of ordinary Americans.”

NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH…………….

WASHINGTON — Six months after approving a bill promising to build some 850 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, the Bush administration and Senate Republicans are now saying 370 miles is enough.

In his negotiations with Republican senators, Mr. Bush also appears to have rejected the key compromise in the Senate bill passed last year: allowing only longtime illegal aliens with “roots” to have a path to citizenship. He instead favors a more circuitous path that is open to almost all illegal aliens.
The (proposal), first obtained and released by U.S. News & World Report, calls for 370 miles of fencing, 200 miles of vehicle barriers and 300 miles of electronic monitoring on the border. By that trigger, the guest-worker and legalization programs could begin with less than 900 miles of the 1,950-mile U.S.-Mexico border being monitored or blocked.
Some Republicans are annoyed that Mr. Bush appears ready to ignore mandates of the Secure Fence Act.
“I drafted that bill. It says ’shall.’ That’s the same language we put in the border fence in San Diego,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican. “Doggone it, this is the law. Follow the law.”
