A legal immigrant speaks out

Someone calling himself “Legal Immigrant” wants you to know the other side of this immigration debate:

Legal, skilled immigrants have been given a very raw deal by the senators in favor of illegal immigrants and those with family ties in this “compromise” immigration bill. Please visit http://immigrationvoice.org to have a better understanding of our plight. We pay ALL the taxes that citizens pay: social security, Medicare tax, property tax….you name it. Since IRS considers us permanent residents for tax purposes we enjoy taxation without representation for 10+years.

There are hundreds of thousands of higher skilled, highly educated professors, doctors, scientists, high tech workers who have been languishing in legal limbo for 5-8 years due to huge green card backlogs. These legal immigrants contribute to the US economy and make America competitive in this era of globalization. This “Comprehensive” immigration reform (CIR) proposes very little or nothing to clear these huge back logs. Instead, it proposes to punish the legal immigrants by REDUCING the number of available green cards for employment based immigration.

American citizens would decide what should be done with illegal immigrants. We have no grudges against them. For us it is a question of justice and fair play. . People who broke the laws would get a Z visa in 24 hours. This Z visa is a de-facto instant green card since it would allow the beneficiary to work for any employer without any restriction or labor certification. Whereas, the legal immigrants after going through tortuous paper work for several years are unable to change employers for 8- 10 years because of the green card backlogs.

Finally, the bill dramatically boosts Family migration while IGNORING people ALREADY living and working in this country. This is again due to vote bank politics, not to establish justice.

I hope American public understands the unfairness of this all. — Legal Immigrant

We need to listen to people who came here legally, who are still standing in line trying to get citizenship legally. They are offended, as they should be, that our government wants to place 12 – 20 million illegal aliens PLUS their family members at the front of the citizenship line.

Here’s what others are saying today:

We are witnessing what happens when you force rubbish down the throats of American citizens and law-abiding people. The trash does not go down smoothly and, why should it?

Sher Zieve, Family Security Matters: ” … activists associated with the “Reconquista Movement” are making more threats against our sovereignty.”

La Raza is also at the forefront of the “Reconquista Movement”—the ‘reconquering’ of the US for Mexico and its ‘indigenous people’. La Raza has also been linked to the funding of separatist schools, including the highly controversial and revolutionary Academia Semillas del Pueblo.

Thomas Sowell on Bipartisan Betrayal:

It should be too obvious for words that decisions about who is to come into the United States and live among Americans should be made in the United States by Americans. In reality, however, for years that decision has been made in Mexico by Mexicans and by others who chose to cross the border from Mexico into the United States with impunity, knowing that even if they were caught, they would at worst be turned back — and could try again.

The Regime Against the Nation, Patrick J. Buchanan:

Last week, in one of the great uprisings of modern politics, Middle America rose up and body-slammed the national establishment. The Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty for 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens, and for the businesses that have hired them — a bill backed by La Raza and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post — went down to crushing defeat.

I totally agree with the “legal immigrant”. If at all anyone gets amnesty, it should be the legal ones who managed to stay here legally. Lot of legal immigrants do sh*tty jobs at restaurants too. The excuse that mexicans are needed here to cover all low income jobs is just LAME. In fact, I am a construction worker too. I stay legal and I am going to apply for my green card soo. So what makes people who jump borders so special? Why should they get amnesty and not people like me?!
