Has Georgia been…had?

I think I get it now. I understand why Chambliss and Isakson sent that letter to the President earlier this week.

They’re trying to save what’s left of their political butts when they vote ‘Yes‘ on the President’s immigration bill.

The letter sent by the Georgia Senators is made to look as if they are getting tough with the President, but it’s really just one, big smoke screen. Sure, it says that Georgian’s have no confidence in the current administration; that the President needs to implement mandatory funding to secure the borders, and only then can he attempt to enforce any new immigration laws.

But, I should have known it was too good to be true.

The real story, is that there have been more secret, behind-the-doors talks with the founders of this bill, that include Chambliss and Isakson:

“We met this evening with several of the senators involved in the immigration bill negotiations. Based on that discussion, the immigration bill will return to the Senate floor after completion…”
– Senator Reid and Senator McConnell

And what’s even more disheartening, is that those talks included the President:

…responding to a request from pivotal GOP senators, he [President Bush] threw his support behind $4.4 billion in immediate funding for “securing our borders and enforcing our laws at the work site.”

Hmmm…I’m sorry, but i’m just a bit suspicious when the most uncooperative President in history, suddenly becomes cooperative with Georgia’s elected officials.

OH – well, I should have known:

The President said this week that he will implement that emergency funding for border security…as drafted, the legislation called for the money to become available over a period of several years.

So, I guess the so-called, ’emergency border security funding,’ doesn’t seem to be such an emergency after all.

[sigh]

Please remember folks, the President approved 700 miles of fence last year that has not been built. The Administration has not even bothered to enforce our existing immigration laws as they stand today.

There are MILLIONS of illegal immigrants in Georgia, pushing their ‘New Georgia’ agenda, because they KNOW there is NO WAY the American Federal Government will follow through on enforcement of the new laws in the Senate immigration bill.

And when its all said and done, the Senators of Georgia will defend their ‘Yes’ vote by citing the emergency border security funding that they had added to this farce of an immigration bill, because after all – they said that securing the border had to be in place before they signed, right?

Don’t be fooled. We all know that money won’t make it to the border. And so do they.

Please. Call your Senators today. Tell them that Georgia will not accept a ‘Yes’ vote from them. Remember – Chambliss is up for re-election, and his vote is critical to next year’s campaign.

So, at least HE must listen to us…right? Pouty

From Marsha Blackburn, (R) Congresswoman Tennessee … when the House passed the SECURE Fence Act, mandating the Department of Homeland Security to construct fencing and vehicle barriers along 800 miles of our Southern border.
