UPDATE 12:30pm: Senate votes YES to move immigration bill forward. The President is congratulating the Senate now on a job well done.

Isakson and Chambliss

Today is the cloture vote for the ‘new and improved’ Senate immigration bill. Luckily, both Isakson and Chambliss say they are NOT going to vote to move the bill to the Senate floor.

Interestingly, Chambliss is now going against everything he said in the beginning, and is now harping some of the very words the Georgia public has been screaming at him for the last few months:

“Why should we think that the government will secure the border when it’s not been done since the 1986 bill?”, Chambliss says.

My – what a difference a few weeks makes. All I ask is that you remember that Chambliss IS an original writer of the bill and didn’t start backing off until the citizens of Georgia held him in check. He is up for re-election next year.

However, just to make sure your Senators get the point, Atlanta talk show radio host, Chris Krok, is holding a ‘No Amnesty’ rally in front of Isakson’s office tomorrow the 27th from 7p-9pm…

…In another pleasantly surprising development, Gwinnett county is doing the job your Federal Government won’t do: Gwinnett Takes on Immigration

Former officer facing possible indictment

A former Duluth police officer is facing a possible indictment on simple battery charges, officials with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office confirmed.
Russell, who is also an attorney, knew about the incident prior to hiring Flathmann.
“I worked with him at Suwanee PD, and I knew him to be a good officer,” Russell said. “We viewed the video tape of the incident. The whole thing is a joke. We hope he will want to come back to work for us, but it is a souring experience. I became an attorney for the way policemen are treated.”
