Almost half of uninsured in America illegal aliens

Poverty is down and median income is up, according to just released census figures 2006, Current Population Survey. (pdf) Reporting: Molly Henneberg, Fox News Channel.

2006: number of uninsured in America 47 million people, or 15.8% of the population.2005: number of uninsured in America 44.8 million people, or 15.3% of the population.

Joseph Antos, American Enterprise Institute, looks inside the numbers, because they are very misleading.

Broken down by legal vs. illegal uninsured who are NOT U.S. CITIZENS IS 45% of the 47 million.Broken down by age, 18 – 24 years old – 29.3% of the 47 million.

25 – 35 years old – 26.9% of the 47 million.

Broken down by salary, $75,000 or more per year – 8.5% of the 47 million.

Did you get that? Almost half of the uninsured in America are ILLEGAL ALIENS. Think what a financial break to our hospitals and doctors it would be, if the illegals were not here. Just a thought.

Also if you do the math 45% (illegal aliens) of 47 million is over 20 million illegal aliens inside the United States. Fact.

Immigration Raid in Cincinnati Nets 200 Illegal Immigrants

29 08 2007

An immigration raid, at a chicken processing plant, just north of Cincinnati rounded up 200 illegal aliens according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. In addition to the raid in Fairfield, ICE served search warrants at the home offices of Koch Foods in Chicago.

Immigration agents raided a poultry packaging facility in Fairfield early today and arrested as many as 200 illegal immigrants who were working there.

The raid, one of the largest of its kind this year in Greater Cincinnati, is part of a two-year investigation into the hiring practices at the Chicago-based Koch Foods Company.

The Fairfield processing facility is located at 4100 Port Union Road in Fairfield.

Immigration officials described Koch Foods as an “egregious violator” of U.S. immigration laws, which means the company is suspected of knowingly hiring undocumented workers.

Brian Moskowitz, a special agent in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for Ohio and Michigan, said agents arrived with search warrants today and seized documents and other materials that could be used to build a criminal case against company officials. Search warrants also were served today at the company’s Chicago offices.

Congratulations to ICE and Bulter County officials for conducting this raid. Right now, this nation is suffering because for years our elected officials have refused to guard the border and enforce our immigration laws. Finally due to pressure from ordinary Americans, our government, rather grudgingly, is starting to attack the problem of illegal immigration.

Additionally, the other part of the equation is a corporate culture of corruption. Our CEO’s knowingly approve the hiring of illegal aliens to keep costs down, improve profits and ultimately line their own pockets with bonuses. But what is the cost of this corporate corruption? Local wages are depressed, local governments are saddled with the burden of providing education and medical benefits for illegals. And because of companies like Koch, our country keeps attracting illegal aliens who have no interest in becoming Americans. Illegal aliens only do the jobs at wages Americans will not accept.

Arizona’s New Hiring Laws are Already Working

29 08 2007

Cross posted from   The Virtuous Republic

The Arizona Republic describes the effect the state’s “impending” new law requiring employers to verify the immigration status of employees has on illegal immigrants.

It’s impossible to count how many undocumented immigrants have fled because of the new law. But based on interviews with undocumented immigrants, immigrant advocates, community leaders and real-estate agents, at least several hundred have left since Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the bill on July 2. There are an estimated 500,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona.

Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs. Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market.

The number departing is expected to mushroom as the Jan. 1 deadline draws closer. After that, the law will require employers to verify the employment eligibility of their workers through a federal database.

“I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day,” said Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at undocumented immigrants.

Immigration hard-liners say the exodus is a sign the employer-sanctions law is working, even before it becomes official. The law is aimed at shutting off the job magnet by imposing harsh penalties on employers caught knowingly hiring unauthorized workers. Violators face a 10-day suspension of their business license for a first offense and could lose their license for a second offense.

“This is exactly what it is supposed to do. (Illegal immigrants) have no business being here, none,” said Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, the main architect of the employer-sanctions law. “Shut off the lights, and the crowd will go home. I hope they will all self-deport.” Read the rest here….

The experiment in Arizona, which hasn’t even really started yet, shows that the enforcement of our current laws in combination with taking away the lure for illegal aliens, i.e., jobs, works. The program hasn’t even started, and illegal immigrants are beginning to move on to greener pastures or as the story notes, return to Mexico.

Of course those states without a law like Arizona will have to quickly adopt such a measure or they will be inundated with illegal immigrants.

If you read the rest of the article, you will see that the usual suspects on the left are already declaring Arizona’s economy will implode without illegal immigrant labor. Marxists and their ilk, who have no respect for our borders, obviously don’t understand the free market. Illegal labor itself has been distorting the market by allow employers to pay substandard wages for certain classes of jobs. To attract legal labor, individuals and businesses (who were breaking the law in the first place) will have to now pay prevailing wages. Some prices may go up and some people may do without some services like child or lawn care. So be it.

In the long run, the market will adjust and Arizona will see several benefits as social services, schools, hospitals, and police departments will require fewer tax dollars as they will no longer have to deal with hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.
