Indoctrination via high school Spanish class in Ohio

“Students struggle as immigrants do” is the headline from The Columbus Dispatch.

Seniors in Erica Vierya’s Spanish class at Olentangy Liberty High
School engage in a three week projectbefitting of Hitlery Clinton’s
proposed Public Service Academy. The students must assume immigrant
identities, fill out the legal paperwork, and then once the teacher
denies them legal status they must come up with a plan to enter and
survive illegally.

Ms. Vierya doesn’t intend “to sway the students, only to teach them
a little empathy.” In this class illegal immigrants are viewed in the
same light as a child adopted from a Russian orphanage, at least in one
child’s opinion. That child (the one adopted from a Russian orphanage)
was apparently not taught the differences between a legal adoption and illegally
entering a country, burdening the taxpayers, and assisting selfish
business owners in driving down the wages of American workers.

The fact that the the plague that is the illegal invasion of our
nation is being likened to to the wonderful act of adopting a baby from
a foreign orphanage is indicative of just how far education has veered
left. The legal adoption of a baby is a loving act by individuals.
Empathizing with the attack on our sovereignty isn’t exactly the same

Perhaps next year the rest of the school should get involved with the project:

  • Math classes can assign students the task of budgeting money paid
    “under the table” and figuring out the difference between what they
    would pay in medical bills and co-pays vs. what they save by not having
    insurance and being treated at taxpayer expense.
  • English classes can be picketted during the three week project since it is racist to expect people to learn English.
  • Government classes can have students role play as disenfranchised
    voters who were expected to be citizens and registered to vote before
    actually being allowed to vote. This might require a presentation by a
    representative of the ACLU or La Raza.
  • While they are at it, perhaps the Freshman Physical Education class
    can take a field trip across state lines to a taxpayer funded abortion
    mill and be shown the preferred method of taking victims of statutory
    rape in for abortions without notifying parents or authorities.

Your argument is filled with logical fallacies. I was not a part of this project, so I am just like you, an outsider looking in. I do not support illegal immigration in any way, but I am intelligent enough to know that not every illegal immigrant comes to America to murder Americans. Most illegal immigrants are trying to escape persecution or are coming to America to find the “American Dream,” something that many of us already have and take for granted. And in regards to the “diverse” (what does that mean? 10? 50,000? very poor word choice) number of Americans that illegal immigrants have killed, what about the thousands of Americans killing other Americans? Does it make murder better if it is an American killing one of his own kind? I’m pretty sure that murder is murder, whoever is doing the killing.

It’s easy for people who have not experienced what these immigrants have experienced to say that they are evil people. It is easy to say they should just stay in their own countries, but we’re already here. We’re already living the good life. We have no idea what the majority of these people have gone through.

This project was not indoctrination. It was simply education. This teacher was not promoting illegal immigration, she was promoting education and the understanding of what life is outside of the perfect little suburban town. You can’t go through life only learning about “safe” subjects because life isn’t safe. Learning about these rougher subjects saves people from ignorance and opens their eyes to what the world is really like.

I truly regret that society has indoctrinated you to believe that you can only learn about subjects that won’t make you uncomfortable or hurt other people’s feelings.

A good example of political correctness in public schools.

It’s easy to brainwash students. They don’t even realize how they are being manipulated. That’s why politicians always have young people working for them–they are easier too fool into participating in a variety of follies.

I suggest these students visit the Victims of Illegal Aliens Memorial at where they can practice being empathetic to the diverse number of Americans that illegals have killed.

I was the student that was featured in the Dispatch article, and I am a LEGAL immigrant to this country. I have studied and researched immigration for numerous years, but it was not until this project that I really began to understand the legal and illegal processes—again… the LEGAL and illegal processes. I was completely disillusioned to the arduous process of LEGAL immigration as I was filling out the multiple INS forms required for someone to enter on a work visa. I was not comparing my story to the illegal portion of the project, which you so happened to do but compare it to the part where we went the process legally. My eyes were opened to the immigration processes of our country, and I will be forever grateful that I have such an amazing teacher who was able to do this for me. Though I believe that it is imperative for our country to devise a new plan in which the influx of undocumented workers to our country will decrease, other students feel very differently. What this project has allowed us to do is speak about this issue with efficacy, and I believe being able to discuss with this topic with awareness makes it one of the greatest projects I’ve done in my high school career. The humanitarian aspect of this project was for us to learn about other cultures and people from around the world due to the National and state of Ohio standards for foreign education, which mandate that foreign language teachers teach empathy, diversity, culture, and many different aspects about the way others live. Spanish is just not a language, and if you did not realize that knowing a second language and culture is imperative—take a look at these links.
For those of you who truly do not understand the meaning of empathy, explains it as… “The intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.”

you guys are ass holes for being so sarcastic and making this a bigger deal then it is! My god this is a fucking project not something about the russian adoptee! This project has been running for years and could have come up any time and just because a person who was adopted had done the project this time doesn’t change anything. JUST A FUCKING PROJECT AND NOT A FUCKING LIFE CHANGING EVENT! AND I SWEAR TO GOD THAT SINCE YOU DON’T KNOW PROFE VIERYA THAT ALL OF THIS IS BULL CRAP TO TEACH THE MINDS DIFFERENTLY!!!!!
