James Madison on Power and Government

1 09 2009

“[A]ll power is originally vested in, and consequently derived from, the people.
That government is instituted and ought to be exercised for the benefit of the people;which consists in the enjoyment of life and liberty and the right of acquiring property, and generally of pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety.
That the people have an indubitable, unalienable, and indefeasible right
to reform or change their government whenever it be found adverse
or inadequate to the purpose of its institution.”

James Madison, being a very prominent force in the creation of our Constitution, I think it is something we should always keep in mind.

ICE No Longer Conducting Workplace Raids

3 04 2009

Cross posted from Virtuous Republic

As someone who uses the ICE website for source information on illegal immigration, I had noticed a paucity of new releases on work place enforcement since the day Obama ascended into the White House.

Guess what, I was right.  From the Washington Post:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has delayed a series of proposed immigration raids and other enforcement actions at U.S. workplaces in recent weeks, asking agents in her department to apply more scrutiny to the selection and investigation of targets as well as the timing of raids, federal officials said.

A senior department official said the delays signal a pending change in whom agents at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement choose to prosecute — increasing the focus on businesses and executives instead of ordinary workers.

“ICE is now scrutinizing these cases more thoroughly to ensure that [targets] are being taken down when they should be taken down, and that the employer is being targeted and the surveillance and the investigation is being done how it should be done,” said the official, discussing Napolitano’s views about sensitive law enforcement matters on the condition of anonymity.

“There will be a change in policy, but in the interim, you’ve got to scrutinize the cases coming up,” the senior DHS official said, noting Napolitano’s expectations as a former federal prosecutor and state attorney general.

Another DHS official said Napolitano plans to release protocols this week to ensure more consistent work-site investigations and less “haphazard” decision-making.

Napolitano’s moves have led some to question President Obama’s commitment to work-site raids, which were a signature of Bush administration efforts to combat illegal immigration. Napolitano has highlighted other priorities, such as combating Mexican drug cartels and catching dangerous criminals who are illegal immigrants.

Napolitano’s moves foreshadow the difficult political decisions the Obama administration faces as it decides whether to continue mass arrests of illegal immigrant workers in sweeps of meatpackers, construction firms, defense contractors and other employers.

Critics say workplace and neighborhood sweeps are harsh and indiscriminate, and they accuse the government of racial profiling, violating due process rights and committing other humanitarian abuses.

The raids have enraged Latino community and religious leaders, immigrant advocates and civil liberties groups important to the Democratic base, who have stepped up pressure on Obama to stop them.

At a rally last week in Chicago, Cardinal Francis George, head of the archdiocese of Obama’s home city, called on the government “to end immigration raids and the separation of families” and support an overhaul of immigration law. “Reform would be a clear sign this administration is truly about change,” George said.

Also last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus made similar calls as the caucus met formally with Obama for the first time.

“Raids that break up families in that way, just kick in the door in the middle of the night, taking [a] father, a parent away, that’s just not the American way. It must stop,” Pelosi added at a Capitol Hill conference on border issues sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

In case you doubt, here are some screen shots from ICE’s new release page.  Note several workplace enforcement article just before Obama’s coronation and the lack thereafter.

Time to ratchet the pressure back up on the Washington establishment.  Whether blue blood Republican or leftist Democrat, neither have the will to stop illegal immigration.  I do not understand the sympathy our leaders have for people who break our laws by illegally entering our nation, who violate our laws by using fake social security numbers and driver’s licenses, who often do no pay taxes, and who tax our schools and hospitals to the breaking point.

Our politicians need to start caring about America first and maybe those who voted for them and who could just as easily vote against them.

Gates: Military can help Mexico in drug war

15 03 2009

Susan here again. After you read this, ask yourself; Where’s The Fence???

From the Washington Times:

The U.S. military is in a better position to provide Mexico’s military with training, resources and intelligence as its southern neighbor battles deadly drug cartels, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said.

More than a thousand people have been killed in Mexico in drug-related violence this year. In 2008 the toll doubled from the previous year to 6,290. Both the United States and Canada have warned that murders related to drug activity in certain parts of Mexico, particularly along the border with the United States, raised the level of risk in visiting the country.

“I think we are beginning to be in a position to help the Mexicans more than we have in the past. Some of the old biases against cooperation with our — between our militaries and so on, I think, are being set aside,” Mr. Gates said in an interview aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Rush cashes in on Democrat demonizing

14 03 2009

Cross posted from Virtuous Republic:

For some reason, Americans have this romantic vision of hard working Mexicans fleeing their native land to find a better life in the U.S.

The reality, is that all illegal immigrants have broken our laws by illegally entering this nation.  Additionally, by not entering this nation through the proper channels, we as a country have no way to filter out the criminals.  The criminals know that our borders are open and thus, the riches of a first world nation is there, for the plundering.

A case in point, ICE rounded up 100 illegal alien gang members in Southern California recently.

Guarded borders, and limited, legal immigration for only the best and the brightest is the only solution to our illegal alien problem.

FRESNO, Calif. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 100 gang members and gang associates in the Central Valley over the last year as part of the agency’s ongoing national anti-gang effort known as Operation Community Shield.

Since Operation Community Shield was launched in 2005, ICE has arrested more than 12,000 gang members and associates nationwide and seized more than 470 firearms. Of those arrested, 154 were gang leaders.

The 100 individuals taken into custody here by ICE as part of Operation Community Shield since February 2008 are foreign nationals with ties to violent street gangs. The statistics include ICE gang arrests in four Central Valley counties – Fresno, Madera, Merced and Tulare. The vast majority of those targeted were arrested on administrative immigration violations. They include foreign nationals who are deportable based upon prior felony convictions and aliens who entered the country without inspection. Virtually all of those arrested have criminal records, including prior convictions on charges ranging from kidnapping and assault to firearms violations and robbery.

At least one of the suspected gang members is being prosecuted on felony criminal charges. Moises Gonzalez-Cruz, a purported “shot caller” in a local clique of the Sureno street gang, was arrested in Madera, Calif., on June 5, 2008, following his indictment for re-entering the United States after deportation. The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges in September and is currently serving 30 months in federal prison.

Other gang members arrested recently by ICE include a Mexican national with ties to the Pocos Pero Locos clique of the Sureno street gang who has prior felony criminal convictions for carrying a concealed firearm and participating in a street gang. The 21-year-old was taken into custody in Madera, Calif., yesterday by ICE agents. The gang member, who goes by the moniker “Lil’ Crazy,” has been placed in deportation proceedings.

The criminal and administrative arrests are part of Operation Community Shield, an ongoing nationwide initiative in which ICE is partnering with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to address the public safety threat posed by transnational gangs. Over the course of the last year, the ICE Office of Investigations in Fresno has worked closely with several area law enforcement agencies to target street gang members.

“These arrest statistics are further proof of ICE’s major role in combating the spread of gangs and gang-related crime here in the Central Valley,” said Brian Poulsen, resident agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Fresno. “Our immigration and customs authorities are proving to be powerful weapons in this effort and we’ll continue working closely with local law enforcement to attack and dismantle the gangs that have terrorized our communities. In cases where gang members are in the United States illegally, we not only remove them from the community, we seek to remove them from the country.”

As part of Operation Community Shield, ICE works with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to target transnational street gangs. Transnational street gangs have a significant number of foreign-born members and are frequently involved in human and contraband smuggling, immigration violations and other crimes with a connection to the border.

E-Verify Barely Survies But Needs Help

7 03 2009

We Can Still Save E-Verify and Need Your Help!  Can You Make One Phone Call??  More if you have time would be great!  Go to: www.numbersusa.com.  Countless Americans are out of work and hurting; your phone call could make a big difference!

The E-Verify Program Won A Big Victory!  But, We Are Not Finished.  Your Calls and Faxes And E-Petitions Made This Happen, But Please Don’t Stop Before We Reach The Finish Line!  We Are So Close!

After Massive Public Outcry, Senate will get a Vote on Sessions’ 5-year E-Verify Amendment.

We Need EVERYONE To Call Their Senators over the weekend, March 6 and 7, leave a voicemail and call on Monday and URGE your Senators to support Sessions Amendment 604.  You can easily get all of your representative information at www.numbersusa.com.

What is E-Verify?  E-Verify is a free, simple web-based system that verifies employment eligibility of new employees. It is the primary means by which American businesses can easily ascertain the work status of new hires online – and is long considered a “Smart Business Practice.”

According to recent analysis, as many as 300,000 illegal aliens could receive jobs funded by the stimulus bill!  According to estimates from the Pew Hispanic Center, roughly 7.7 million illegal immigrants are employed in the U.S. in 2008. These are all jobs that currently unemployed U.S. workers–both citizens and legal immigrants–could and should have a chance to fill.

Employers who break the law by hiring illegal immigrants create unfair competition in the labor market and depress wages for all workers. Legal Immigration Rocks!  Illegal immigration is, well ILLEGAL!!

I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.  ~Edward Everett Hale

Free Health Care for Illegal Aliens Needs Improvement, Some in Congress Say

4 03 2009

From CNSNews:

Free health care provided to illegal aliens detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement needs to be investigated and improved, some members of a congressional Homeland Security panel said on Tuesday, despite testimony that the number of detainee deaths is way down and that health screenings have saved lives.

Now your all saying it is our responsibility to take care of these people because we detained them, I can hear ya’all saying that.

Capt. Jose Rodriguez, director of the U.S. Public Health Service’s Division of Immigration Health Services, testified that each individual taken into ICE custody is given a verbal health screening and is tested for tuberculosis within 12 hours. Dental exams also are provided, and women ages 10 to 55 are given pregnancy tests at the initial health screening.

The dental screening is a bit over the top since most health care plans for working citizens of this great United States do not include dental plans. The rest I agree with, especially testing for TB. A disease that all these Illegal Aliens are bringing back into the U.S. And get a load of these numbers.

Witness Jim Hayes, director of ICE’s Office of Detention and Removal Operations, told the subcommittee that of the more than 1.7 million people who have been in ICE custody since its inception in 2003, 90 individuals have died.

1.7 million illegals, and that’s only the ones we know about and caught! I wonder what they do with the babies of the illegals that these women have while in detention? Do they ship them back to their country of origin with their mothers. I doubt it.

Border Patrol whistle-blowers, feds close to a settlement

16 01 2009

From The Virtuous Republic

The point?  We need a legal process and limited immigration into this country.

For the life of me, the same people who push birth control in the
third world, so that the poor bastards can feed the children they
already have, or to relieve over-crowding, are the same idiots here who
have no problem with our open border policy.

Illegal immigration crowds our nation, takes jobs from American citizens, and adds to the crime rate.

A few cases in point:

Identity theft
He had $800,000 in loans using some poor schmuck’s social security
number. Were you that poor schmuck? And have you checked your credit
score lately?

This guy was only convicted
of resisting arrest, violence against a police officer, and possessing
a firearm by an illegal immigrant.  Oh, and he ignored a deportation
order for nearly 20 years.  Maybe he was your neighbor?

Convicted rapist reenters the United States, illegally of course.  Did he live close to your wife or daughters?

Hit and run illegal kills American citizen.  How many unlicensed, uninsured illegals drive past you each day?

Illegal immigrants worked at border agency in UK

6 11 2008

Seems everyone has border security problems, not just the US of A.

From timesonline

ILLEGAL immigrants have worked as guards for a government body responsible for defending Britain’s borders.

Seven security personnel were found to be carrying forged documents, according to disclosures under the Freedom of Information Act.

One has since been arrested, five have resigned and the other is on maternity leave, while her immigration status is investigated. They were working for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), which had responsibilities for border security until April.

The news that security issues have been entrusted to illegal immigrants will embarrass the government, which has repeatedly pledged to cut down on illegal working by foreign nationals.

The security staff, employed by a contractor that guarded buildings used by employees of the UK border agency and HMRC, were identified in December last year as carrying documents that were believed to be suspect.

I just love how the rest of the world thinks they have a right to look down their noses at us when it comes to our border security. Not that it’s the best.

Don’t Allow Congress To Let E-Verify Die!

19 09 2008

Cross Posted from Conservative Common Man

Thank God for The Heritage Foundation and the alerts they disseminate!

I received an e-mail today which contained links and information
on several topics, but the one that grabbed my attention was the link
to this message from James Jay Carafano, Ph.D. “Time Is Ticking: Congress Must Re-Authorize E-Verify Now.”
It is no surprise that I had no idea that E-Verify is set to expire,
considering how dead set our congress seems to be on ignoring the will
of its constituents!

Unless
Congress steps in, on November 30, E-Verify is set to expire. E-Verify
is a system that allows employers to verify electronically whether
their newly hired employees are legally authorized to work in the
United States. E-Verify should be re-authorized.

A Valuable Voluntary Program

Through E-Verify, participating employers can
check the work eligibility status of new personnel they are hiring
through an online service that compares information from an employee’s
I-9 form against Social Security Administration (SSA) and Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) databases. This service is provided free to
employers (though the individual companies must bear the cost of
providing the infrastructure and people to enter the data). So far this
year, E-Verify has processed over 4 million eligibility checks. The
system has proven to be quite effective, and SSA and DHS continue to
work to improve service, reliability, and privacy protections.

Could our members of the
“do-nothing” congress (which would be a good thing if they would also
refrain from doing the things that harm our nation… perhaps “do-nothing
good” congress is more appropriate) be hoping November 30 will come and
go quietly? Could many off them be hoping the attention to the
presidential election will distract an already apathetic electorate? I
would suggest that some of the open borders, flood the labor pool,
amnesty for illegals liberals and RINO’s are indeed hoping this
deadline passes unnoticed by the masses. Of course some of the career
politicians may be too wrapped up in campaigns of their own or of
fellow partisans to be bothered by the work of the people. Obviously no
one expects my senators from Illinois, Barack “Born Alive, Let Them
Die” Obama and the equally worthless Dick Durbin to to their jobs, but
some of the rest of you might be able to get through to yours.

Remember that the next job that goes to an illegal alien might be
the one you previously held. I urge you to call your senators and
representatives! Make your voice heard (and hopefully your senators
aren’t as ridiculously anti-America as mine.) Visit the following links
to find the contact information for your members of our illustriously
incompetent congress:

www.senate.gov

www.house.gov

While you’re at it you might want to let them know
that you aren’t fooled by Nancy Pelosi’s “compromise” energy bill that
only allows off-shore drilling were the bulk of the oil ISN”T!

Social Security for illegal Aliens?

26 08 2008

I have brought this up in the past, but it is time to re-visit this lunacy!

When Social Security was created in the 1930s, intelligent observers said it would fail. Its first recipient, Ida Fuller, contributed less than $25. After 35 years of retirement, Fuller died, having pocketed nearly $25,000. Not a bad return. At the program’s inception, numerous workers paid into the program compared to the number of people receiving benefits. That’s the situation no longer. With baby boomers retiring soon and the so-called trust fund filled with IOUs, the Social Security system is headed for disaster.

Now President Bush wants to add a few million people to the rolls of Social Security. Adding more Americans would be bad enough. But Presidente Arbusto wants to bring Mexican citizens onto its rolls, most of them now illegal aliens.

The president’s position is hardly surprising, given his amnesty plan for illegals and the not-so-secret blueprint for melding the United States, Mexico, and Canada into a North American Union that would erase American citizenship and sovereignty. But perhaps the effrontery of the idea, which slaps the face of every real American who involuntarily contributes to Social Security, will sink this ship before it sails.

Go read the whole article...

This is how our government takes care of it’s citizens. This is unbelievable, isn’t it? Social Security starts losing money, as is,in 2015. Now El Presidente Bush wants to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens? They already receive Welfare benefits, free education for their children, credit cards, home loans and now social security benefits?

We have got to keep hounding our elected cockroaches…

Liberal Media Once Again Sides With Lawbreakers

26 08 2008

Cross posted from Conservative Common Man

In a time when the liberal media should be rejoicing in their impending presidential victory (regardless of which sub-par candidate wins) or focusing on their primary task of campaigning for “Big Brother” Barry Obama, they still get distracted by the perceived unjust treatment of lawbreakers. Both presidential candidates are open-borders, no sovereignty type guys, but apparently the lib media doesn’t think that is good enough. You see, illegal aliens are being caught currently and their sad tales must be told. Imagine the horror that the most recently detained illegals faced, they could not attend the wedding reception for Ellen and “Ally McBeal’s” Nell (the other newsworthy garbage in The San Francisco Chronicle.) Actually, most of the illegals in Iowa probably wouldn’t have made the trip out of “the shadows” to attend the gay (that means happy, right?) couple’s nuptials.

The AP article in the San Francisco Chronicle is heart-wrenchingly headlined, “Small town Iowa struggles after immigration raid.” A gut response might be, “so what?” There is no valid reason for a town to struggle because of an immigration raid. Those that claim otherwise conveniently ignore the most basic fact, illegal is illegal. If there are jobs to be done, they can be done by people that are here “legally”, which means those without the “il” as a prefix to their status. Perhaps the business owners should pay higher wages and subsequently charge more, or perform the tasks themselves… oh shoot, I used common sense there. Forgive me, it is a bad habit of mine.

There is no such thing as a “job (that must be done) that Americans won’t do,” but that doesn’t matter to the liberal AP writer. Here is an excerpt from the tear-jerking assault on enforcement of the law:

For years, even decades, these Mexican and Guatemalan families had called Postville home. Here, in a place first settled by German and Norwegian Lutherans and Irish Catholics more than 150 years ago, Hispanic immigrants were raising children, buying houses, building businesses.

Like the Hasidic Jews who came to the town in 1987 to open the meatpacking plant, and the Eastern Europeans who made up the first band of workers there, the influx of Guatemalans and Mexicans had both buffeted and bolstered this quiet community — until it reached a new cultural equilibrium.

In time, the newcomers became part of the fabric of Postville, which proudly bills itself as “Hometown to the World.” Now, they were clustered in hiding or being herded away in handcuffs by immigration agents.

How do you say “illegal” in Spanish? Apparently the liberals in the media (and the liberal presidential nominees of both major parties) don’t understand the meaning of the English word. Of course, sob stories like this shy away from using the word “illegal” in order to avoid risking reality intruding upon their tales.

What does it say about the liberal media that they wage such a war on behalf of illegal and immoral activities? One thing it says is that Barack Obama is the perfect recipient of their support and free campaign advertising (they call them articles and columns.) I can’t imagine the umbrage these “news” outlets would display if it was discovered that some illegal alien was denied taxpayer funded transportation to an abortion mill (they call them health care facilities) for a taxpayer funded abortion. We would surely and ironically be decried as a racist society for not advancing Margaret Sanger’s goal of eugenics.

I hope the citizens of this great nation that expect our sovereignty to be respected are paying attention. The next president’s term will be difficult for those of us in this category. Both candidates are opposed to the right side of the ilegal immigration and sovereignty issue, so we will have to be vigilant and vocal. We must not allow the open border chief executive and his accomplices in the media to further facilitate the invasion!

Illegal Aliens Working at Dulles Airport

26 08 2008

Cross posted from Virtuous Republic

Isn’t it great to know that some Americans cherish the almighty dollar over our laws, our sovereignty, our safety, and our national security?

WASHINGTON – This morning U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 42 men illegally present in the country at Dulles International Airport as part of a critical infrastructure protection (CIP) operation. ICE agents, with support of airport security agencies, arrested the illegal aliens just inside the airport grounds at a checkpoint established to verify the identity and immigration status of workers entering a service gate.

“It is crucial to ICE’s homeland security mission to know who enters sensitive areas like airports, military bases and power plants to ensure the integrity of these key assets,” said Mark X. McGraw, Special Agent in Charge of ICE’s Office of Investigations, Washington field office. “This operation illustrates ICE’s ongoing efforts in partnership with federal and local agencies to secure the critical infrastructure within the National Capital Region.”

ICE agents interviewed more than 200 individuals to verify their identities, immigration status, and eligibility for lawful employment in the U.S. Most of the individuals encountered worked on construction projects at the airport. Those detained are being interviewed, fingerprinted, photographed and entered into Department of Homeland Security databases at a local ICE office. Relatives and friends wishing to check on the custody status and detention location of those detained may call 1-866-341-3858, ICE’s toll-free, 24-hour hotline.

Among those arrested on Wednesday, were nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru. ICE contacted local consular officials, and community groups to provide accurate information regarding the operation.

Interviews can often generate critical law enforcement information that may lead to future investigations. There is no indication that any of the aliens were involved in any terrorist activity.

ICE agents prioritize enforcement efforts by focusing on the sites related to critical infrastructure and national security. The goal of CIP operations is to reduce the vulnerabilities at these facilities and other key assets to prevent potential attacks. Critical infrastructure has been defined as systems and assets, whether physical or virtual, so crucial to the United States that the damage or destruction of such systems and assets would have a debilitating impact on security, national economy, public health or safety, and/or any combination of those matters.

Unauthorized workers employed at sensitive facilities such as airports, nuclear power plants, chemical plants, military bases, defense facilities and seaports, may compromise the integrity of these key assets. In FY 2008, ICE agents have made more than 700 administrative arrests and 100 criminal arrests at critical infrastructure facilities.

Tyson’s pandering to Somali’s at Shelbyville, Tn plant

14 08 2008

Cross posted from Beer Creek Ledger:

Tyson drops Labor Day holiday for Eid al-Fitr

Workers at Tyson Foods’ poultry processing plant in
Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will
instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.

A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department
Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville
facility “implements a new holiday to accommodate the … Muslim workers
at the plant.”

The RWDSU stated that “the five-year contract creates an additional
paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end
of Ramadan.”

snip….
“The date for this holiday (Eid al-Fitr) is not the same each year,” Mickelson said. “however, it is in the early fall.”

The press release stated there are approximatly 700 Muslims
working at Tyson, but Mickelson said that Somalis only represent
approximately 250 of the 1,200 employed at the plant, a little over 20
percent of the workforce.

“All Team Members who have completed their probationary period are
eligible for all eight paid holidays including Eid al-Fitr,” the Tyson
spokeman said.

The union also claimed that in addition to the observance of the
Muslim holiday, “two prayer rooms have been created to allow Muslim
workers to pray twice a day and return to work without leaving the
plant.”

Mickelson said that Shelbyville’s Tyson plant “does have a prayer room to accommodate the needs of Muslim Team Members.”

Look out Shelbyville, you could turn into the Twin Cities in
Minnesota. The Somali’s have a very active legal advocate system and
they use it to advance their extremist culture. Don’t expect the
Somali’s to assimilate to American culture. They will use our laws to
make money and then sue to advance their own Islamist ways.

There are plenty more examples of Somali’s forcing their culture on
the rest of us. There’s the Somali Target cashier who refused to touch
a package of pork in Mpls. Target of course bowed to political
correctness and established a policy allowing a Muslim cashier to call
in a replacement. The creeping Dhimmitude in the Twin Cities is well
established. With Tyson importing Somali’s to work in their plants in

Undocumented Aliens, Real Crimes 8/06

14 08 2008

Cross posted from The Virtuous Republic:

By now, you’ve heard that Texas defied the World Court and executed a double murderer yesterday.

In all the stories about him, one thing isn’t touched upon to any great extent, if at all. Jose Medellin was an illegal immigrant from Mexico!

His parents brought him illegally across the border when he was 6 years old. Had our government secured our borders, two American citizens more than likely would still be alive today.

Instead, we had to witness the media circus over the involvement of the World Court, President Bush, and the Supreme Court, all over a man that surely deserves to die.

Let’s not forget that our nation’s lackadaisical approach to border security in the end, killed two teenage American girls. Maybe the World Court could ask our government to fulfill its Constitutional duties.

The June 1993 crime for which Medellin was condemned was chilling. According to the Texas Attorney General’s office, Pena and her 14-year-old companion, Jennifer Ertman, were walking home when they encountered a gang initiation.

Medellin and his fellow gang members sexually assaulted, beat and strangled the two girls. When their badly decomposed bodies were finally recovered, they could only be identified by dental records. Medellin was only convicted of Pena’s murder.

Why I Don’t Care, Why I Think it is a Good Thing

14 08 2008

Cross posted from The Virtuous Republic:

The International Herald Tribune covers the practice of U.S. hospitals which send illegal immigrants back to their native countries.

In a nutshell, most of these cases involve traumatic injuries received by illegal immigrants. They have no health insurance, they are here illegally, and the hospitals are bleed dry if they indefinitely keep treating these illegal aliens.

In some cases, as noted by the IHT, hospitals arrange flights to send these patients back to their native lands. The U.S. government isn’t involved.

These people are here illegally. Had they attained citizenship, their illness would have been covered by Medicare, but instead, they are paying the price for their illegal act of entering the United States.

I do not find this practice heartless. These U.S. hospitals can’t provide infinite care to illegal immigrants.

Simply put, these trauma cases overburden the system and the cost is passed on to people like you and me who actually pay their bills. Have you been in the hospital lately? Even a day or two can set you back thousands and thousands of dollars. Illegal immigration doesn’t help the situation at all.

Hospital administrators view these cases as costly, burdensome patient transfers that force them to shoulder responsibility for the dysfunctional immigration and health care systems. In many cases, they say, the only alternative to repatriations is keeping patients indefinitely in acute-care hospitals.

“What that does for us, it puts a strain on our system, where we’re unable to provide adequate care for our own citizens,” said Alan Kelly, vice president of Scottsdale Healthcare in Arizona. “A full bed is a full bed.”

Medical repatriations are happening with a frequency and a degree of patient consent that vary from state to state and hospital to hospital. No government agency or advocacy group keeps track of these cases, and it is difficult to quantify them.

Many hospitals engage in repatriations of seriously injured and ill immigrants only as a last resort. “We’ve done flights to Lithuania, Poland, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico,” said Cara Pacione, director of social work at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. “But out of about a dozen cases a year, we probably fly only a couple back.” Read more….

Michael Johns Says Sealing America’s Border with Mexico Requires Urgency

19 07 2008

Cross posted From Michael Johns

Conservative leader and writer Michael Johns, a former White House speechwriter and Heritage Foundation foreign policy analyst, said last night that the United States needs to act with great urgency to secure its southern border with Mexico if it hopes to protect the nation’s security interests and begin reversing the many economic and other crises spurred by the nation’s apparent unwillingness to enforce federal immigration laws by fully securing its southern border.

Replays of Johns’ interview with the Grizzly Groundswell Network on Blog Talk Radio are available globally for replay from the 61.30 to 120 minute mark of the network’s June 30, 2008 show, available at:

http://grizzlygroundswell.com/archives/2849

In the interview, Johns challenges the conventional wisdom that Mexico’s illegal aliens in the U.S. are only filling jobs that Americans do not want, stating that nearly half of them–10.5 million of the 21.6 million illegal Mexicans in this nation–are illegally filling skilled jobs that almost certainly would be appealing to Americans at a time when unemployment is standing at 5.5 percent nationally. Johns stated further that the failure of the U.S. to seal its southern border from illegals represents one of the greatest ongoing security threats to the nation at a time when the U.S. continues to be embroiled in a global conflict against al-Qaeda and Islamic extremism.

Johns stated that the 21.6 million illegal Mexican aliens in the U.S. are ill-serving the U.S. economy, costing the nation approximately $397 billion annually in education, health care and other social services. Meanwhile, Johns says, Mexican illegals are returning large sums of their earnings–approximately $33 billion annually to Mexico and $283 billion annually to all of Latin America. He also said that the U.S. has spent approximately $1.5 billion since 2001 in costs associated with the incarceration of approximately 370,000 illegal aliens in the U.S.

As President of Phoenix’s Coalition for a Conservative Majority (CCM), Johns and his organization are actively supporting two Arizona ballot initiatives that would strengthen the state’s illegal immigration enforcement capabilities by empowering Arizona’s law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration laws and make the state’s criminal trespass statutes applicable to illegal aliens in the state. The deadline for the submission of signatures for these two ballot initiatives is this Thursday, July 3, 2008.

NY Times Continues To Whine Despite Having Two Open Borders Candidates

6 07 2008

Cross posted from Conservative Common Man:

The typical “woe is business” sob story drips with even more typical liberal hypocrisy. Business is the enemy and is always taking advantage of poor unsuspecting, ignorant people… that is except when we can use the plight of business to further our open border agenda! The fact that the NY Times has such a ridiculous whine fest on behalf of business in today’s spewing, is rendered even more idiotic by the fact that the next president is guaranteed to coddle illegal aliens. Their side of the issue has already won the presidency, but apparently that isn’t enough.

When a liberal rag has an agenda, no level is too low to sell it. In fact, the first example of the poor business given in the offending article “Employers Fight Tough Measures On Immigration,” details the plight of a business that didn’t have to hire illegal aliens… but the point is they might have to someday!

Mike Gilsdorf, the owner of a 37-year-old landscaping nursery in Littleton, Colo., saw the need for action by businesses last winter when he advertised with the Labor Department, as he does every year, for 40 seasonal workers at market-rate wages to plant, prune and carry his shrubs in the summer heat. Only one local worker responded to the notice, he said, and then did not show up for the job.

Mr. Gilsdorf was able to fill his labor force with legal immigrants from Mexico through a federal guest worker program. But that program has a tight annual cap, and Mr. Gilsdorf realized that he might not be so lucky next year. His business could fail, he said, and then even his American workers would lose their jobs.

“We’re not hiring illegals, we’re not paying under the table,” Mr. Gilsdorf said. “But if we don’t get in under the cap and nobody is answering our ads, we don’t have employees.” His group, Colorado Employers for Immigration Reform, is pressing Congress for a much larger and more flexible guest worker program.

I am too ignorant to see how the wages Mr. Gilsdorf pays are “market-rate” if he can’t find legal workers to employ at those wages. Oops, I keep forgetting the fact that he can find legal workers to employ! I would suggest that as soon as he can’t find legal workers to employ at his “market-rate” then it is no longer “market-rate.” Are we to assume that there is full employment in his part of Colorado? If not, how can “market-rate” wages not attract employees?

Mr. Gilsdorf is not alone in his agony. An electronics assembly company in California has 20 out of 90 assembly workers whose numbers don’t match the records of the Social Security Administration. Apparently anti-discrimination rules prevent the company from checking into the discrepancy. How exactly does that work? There is a system known as E-verify, perhaps this particular company might want to use it for the 20 employees mentioned. What would be the down-side of that?

Because of the antidiscrimination rules, the executive cannot check to be certain that the 20 workers, mainly Hispanic women, are illegal. Moreover, they have advanced through training, she said, and excel at their jobs, which require the repetitive assembly of tiny parts by hand, often under microscopes.

“I can’t replace those people,” the executive said. She said that despite offering competitive wages from $9 to $17 an hour, the company had failed over the years in repeated efforts to attract nonimmigrant workers because of the state’s tight technology labor market and because of the nature of the work, exacting and tedious. If the workers were fired or arrested, she said, she could fail to meet her contracts.

“If we have to terminate 20 people, that’s going to jeopardize 100 other jobs of people who are legal, Americans, people who are making a good living,” she said.

Angelo Paparelli, an immigration lawyer who represents the company, said: “This is not an employer who wants to turn a blind eye to lawbreaking. She is facing a tightening of the enforcement vise that does not take into account Congress’s failure to create a workable system.”

I see. The problem is that Congress failed to give these businesses that employ illegal aliens everything they wanted! McCain, Kennedy and the boys ought to at least get some credit for trying to cater to the American citizen undercutting employers. Heck, if the nasty… gasp… citizens hadn’t butted in the congress could have done their duty, which is apparently written in The Constitution as:

The primary function of the Senate and House of Representatives is to ensure the free flow of illegal labor to any company that does not want to pay “market-rate.” The rights of non-citizens will be protected before the rights of citizens will be considered and Congress shall pass no law that infringes on the employment opportunities to those that might cross our borders illegally.

Festering cesspools like the NY Times and Washington Post really do take issue with the government when it actually indicates some willingness to follow the will of the electorate. I suppose these liberal mouthpieces are in for happier days given the state of American politics. The next president is highly unlikely to follow the will of the electorate on this issue as both candidates seek to compete for the title of “an illegals best friend.” Too many Republican politicians seem to think the path to re-election is to act like Democrat politicians and too many citizens just don’t seem to be involved in the nation’s affairs. These factors spell gloom for our nation and her citizens, which of course is good news for the liberal rags.

Rep. Bruce Braley Still Pandering to Illegals

25 05 2008

Cross posted from InMuscatine:

U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley on Tuesday asked federal officials for a tally of the costs of last week’s immigration raid in Postville and similar enforcement actions in 2006 at Swift & Co. meatpacking plants in Marshalltown and five other Midwest cities.

“It is important that my constituents in Iowa and all U.S. taxpayers know how their tax dollars are being spent,” the Waterloo Democrat said in a letter to Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Secretary Julie Myers.

[From Braley wants to know how much raids cost | The Des Moines Register]

Mr. Braley :

Since you have decided to become a watchdog on spending, we suggest you look into these areas as well :

* The Congressional budget

* Social Security

* Medicare

* The EPA budget

We will hazard a guess there is more waste, fraud and abuse in the Congressional budget alone than the government spent on enforcement of our laws at Postville, Iowa.

But that is not what you are interested in, is it Mr. Braley?

Braley said it’s important for federal immigration officials to be as transparent as possible when enforcement actions occur.

Translation : it’s important for Braley to harass immigration officials when enforcement actions occur.

The congressman asked for a breakdown of ICE’s expenses, including planning, execution, processing, detention and deportation costs. He also asked for the budgets of other cooperating agencies that assisted with the raids.

To what end, save the harassment of those performing their duties? From what we have seen, Mr. Braley should be more worried about executing his oath of office than pandering to the criminals flowing across our borders. Save that, there should be a recall election mounted to force Mr. Braley from office for not upholding his oath of office.

In the wake of the Postville raid, Braley said he supports an investigation into whether Agriprocessors Inc. violated workplace safety, child labor and immigration laws.

Wait a minute. On one hand, Mr. Braley would have us believe he is the watchdog of the American taxpayer dollar, and on the other he is calling for open-ended, God-knows-how-expensive investigations which would be mostly pointless. Call us crazy, but this is the best example of pandering we think we could possibly offer up.

Shame be on you, Mr. Braley. That is, it would be if you had any concept of what shame is.

Sob Story for the Illegals

21 05 2008
Cross posted from InMuscatine:

POSTVILLE, Iowa — Antonio Escobedo ran to get his wife Monday when he saw a helicopter circling overhead and immigration agents approaching the meatpacking plant where they both work. The couple hid for hours inside the plant before obtaining refuge in the pews and hall at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, where hundreds of other Guatemalan and Mexican families gathered, hoping to avoid arrest.

[From Immigration Raid Jars a Small Town | Washington Post]

Quaint. Unfortunately, there is no “get out of jail free” card tacked on the door of any church. The right of “sanctuary” has never been codified in American law that we have ever seen. Frankly, we are upset at the incompetence of the immigration officials if this story is true – nobody should have been able to hide for hours inside that plant.

And while we are on the subject, we would like to know exactly when being a reporter was a “get out of jail free” card when it came to being an accomplice to a crime. If such provisions exist in American law, we would like to see them repealed and the punishment stiffened by at least double. We tire of reporters being able to shield lawbreakers and fugitives because they are “working a story”. Being a reporter does not excuse you from your civic duties, and that should include harboring, aiding, or otherwise abetting illegal aliens.

Monday’s raid on the Agriprocessors plant, in which 389 immigrants were arrested and many held at a cattle exhibit hall, was the Bush administration’s largest crackdown on illegal workers at a single site. It has upended this tree-lined community, which calls itself “Hometown to the World.” Half of the school system’s 600 students were absent Tuesday, including 90 percent of Hispanic children, because their parents were arrested or in hiding.

To which we add – GOOD! Let those who break laws know fear for every waking moment. We care not the color of their skin, and they have surely shown the content of their character. Let fear be their companion every waking moment of the rest of their lives until they come here legally.

Current and former officials of the Department of Homeland Security say its raid on the largest employer in northeast Iowa reflects the administration’s decision to put pressure on companies with large numbers of illegal immigrant workers, particularly in the meat industry. But its disruptive impact on the nation’s largest supplier of kosher beef and on the surrounding community has provoked renewed criticism that the administration is disproportionately targeting workers instead of employers, and that the resulting turmoil is worse than the underlying crimes.

“They don’t go after employers. They don’t put CEOs in jail,” complained the Postville Community Schools superintendent, David Strudthoff, 51, who said the sudden incarceration of more than 10 percent of the town’s population of 2,300 “is like a natural disaster — only this one is manmade.”

We tire of people seemingly incapable of logic. How can one hold an employer liable for civil or criminal penalties if they themselves have been “duped” by forged documents? It’s like shutting down the corner convenience store if some kid buys beer with the world’s best fake ID. Personally, we wish to see David Strudthoff arrested for counterfeiting the next time he is discovered be to holding a phony $20 bill.
The odds say we have all had a fake bill, at one time or another. We probably never suspected, never knew and didn’t care. Since ol’ Dave wants employers to be instant experts in document authenticity, perhaps he should be held to the exact same standard.
Let us not forget – in addition to illegal immigration enforcement the charges alleged in this raid also dealt with I.D. theft. We know the Washington Post saw fit to bury this in the last third of the story, but it is perhaps the most important part.
Many would have us believe that illegal immigration is a “victimless” crime – we beg to differ. There are many people all across America who have had their lives ruined by ID theft, and no doubt a large percentage of these people had their lives and credit ruined by illegal aliens.

Congressman Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) said enforcement efforts against corporations that commit immigration violations have “plummeted” under the Bush administration. “Until we enforce our immigration laws equally against both employers and employees who break the law, we will continue to have a problem,” he said.

Congressman Braley, you are a pandering idiot. There is no equality in enforcement of the law, as employers and employees are held to very different standards. We don’t recall any statistic which points to the jails of this land being filled with people who present false documentation as part of the hiring process. If that were to include “resume padding”, we advance the idea our prisons would be bursting at the seems from this crime alone.

Instead of pandering to those breaking the law, maybe – just maybe – you can get off your duff, buck your party and actually do something about enforcing the laws of this land as you swore to do when taking your oath of office! Remember this :

“I, Bruce Braley, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.’’

We note there is absolutely no mention of party in that paragraph. So get off your pandering ass and start upholding and defending the Constitution as you swore to do!

Of the adults, 306 face criminal charges for aggravated identity theft and other crimes related to the use of false documents.

Wow. That reporter must be plumb tuckered out devoting so much energy to the reporting of the other crimes alleged in this raid. It makes Callista Flockhart seem downright obese. Let’s put those numbers in perspective – out of nearly 400 people arrested, 306 are facing ID theft charges. To be precise – 78.66% of those arrested. Postville’s entire economy was based on a lie. It was based on crime. It does not deserve to continue.

“The problem is, who is going to do the work?” said Stephen G. Bloom, a University of Iowa journalism professor who wrote a 2000 book on the clash of cultures in Postville as Agriprocessors’ Lubavitch Jewish leaders gained influence in the mostly Lutheran town. “This is a no-win situation.”

Ahhh, yes. What would any sob story article be without the obligatory quote from a Liberal academician? We will tell you who will do the work, Mr. Bloom – Americans. Americans will do the work but not at third-world wages. What will happen is what happened at other plants raided in America, which is the wages will rise and Americans will once again fill the jobs that allegedly no American will do.

It is very much a win-win situation and not the no-win you paint, Mr. Bloom. Wages will rise, Americans will be employed gainfully once again, the economy will thrive and no longer be based on a lie.

Border Patrol Provides Free Taxi Service for Illegal Aliens

16 05 2008
Cross posted from Bear creek Ledger:

From the Corruption Chronicles:

Instead of arresting thousands of illegal immigrants who qualify for prosecution for entering the country multiple times, the U.S. Border Patrol simply gives them a ride home knowing that they will likely return.

In some cases the cycle repeats itself on dozens of occasions or more than 100 times with no consequences for the illegal border crossers. The illegal aliens get caught repeatedly and, rather than getting arrested or charged, they get a free ride south of the border. Most have no intention of staying in the U.S., but rather make it north to panhandle with their children in front of American businesses located near the border.

They mostly include groups of women who use their children to lure sympathy and money from Americans. They solicit at strip malls and other businesses far enough from the border to avoid federal agents. Then, when they are ready to return home with their dollars, they purposely loiter at stores near the U.S.-Mexico border and agents drive them back south.

Each year the agency in charge of protecting the nation’s borders gets played in this manner by thousands of illegal aliens. In the last fiscal year alone, nearly 500 Mexican women and children have been rounded up and returned home. One woman sneaked across the border at least 128 times in the past eight years and each time she used the Border Patrol as a free taxi service from El Paso Texas to her hometown of Oaxaca Mexico.

The Border Patrol admits that the repeat offenders qualify for prosecution, but claims that a crucial humanitarian factor—not separating a family—plays a role in its decision not to arrest the illegal immigrant women with children. Agents use a loophole that gives them discretion to keep adults and children united and out of prison. An agency spokesman justified it, saying that these particular Mexicans are coming to beg and not trying to further their entry into the United States.

Isn’t that so nice of the BP, not only do they not charge these illegal aliens with illegal entry but they then turn around and use taxpayers dollars to provide a free taxi ride. The Border Patrol goes from insult to injury with American citizens. I would suppose since none of these illegals are charged that would mean their biometrics are not on file. If charged, the second illegal re-entry would be considered a felony.

Hogwash to the justification used by the BP on separating the adults from their children. The illegal aliens choose to illegally cross the border with their children, it’s their problem if arrested. How about these illegal put their energies into finding work in Mexico instead of begging off of Americans. The BP is encouraging another generation of Mexicans to beg and sponge off of Americans, way to go.
